Magellan aerospace and Aequs to launch sand casting facility in India

Infrastructure  -  Mar 10,2025  -

Magellan Aerospace Corporation, a Canadian aerospace systems manufacturer, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Indian contract manufacturing firm Aequs to set up a sand-casting facility at the Belagavi Aerospace Cluster (BAC) in Karnataka.

The agreement, finalised on 06 March 2025, aims to enhance sand-casting capabilities in Southeast Asia, supporting both commercial and defence aerospace industries. Magellan, a centre of excellence for sand castings in North America, specialises in complex geometries using the chemically bonded sand process. The company and Aequs previously established Aerospace Processing India (API) in 2007 and signed an MoU in 2024 to explore a joint aircraft engine maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) facility in Karnataka, catering to Airbus and Boeing.

Magellan’s President, Phillip Underwood, emphasized the strategic significance of the venture, stating, “Magellan is committed to helping grow this commodity in India. We are ready to meet the growing needs of our casting customers with the cost-effective and quality solutions they have come to expect.”

Aequs Chairman Aravind Melligeri highlighted advancements in sand casting technology, noting that it enables the production of lightweight yet robust components that meet stringent aerospace industry standards. He also pointed out that the new facility will enhance Aequs’ vertically integrated manufacturing capabilities at BAC.
