Kerala approved Rs 300 crore for Smart City; land transfer accelerates

Infrastructure  -  Oct 27,2025  -

Kerala’s state government, alongside the central government, has approved Rs 300 crore for the Palakkad Industrial Smart City and transferred over 600 acres of land so far, speeding up infrastructure build-out. The project is part of India’s strategy to develop connected, future-ready industrial ecosystems.

A smart-city industrial park implies integrated utilities, digital infrastructure, pre-built factory shells and streamlined regulatory frameworks—all designed to shorten time-to-market for manufacturing firms investing in the region. This is especially meaningful for southern India, where green-field land is scarcer.

The Kerala corridor seeks to attract companies beyond services, expanding into manufacturing, engineering and electronics. The smart-city model aligns with investor expectations of plug-and-play infrastructure and minimal lag in setup.

Successful execution will require coordination between central and state agencies, and timely delivery of roads, power, water, logistics and workforce facilities. The project’s progress could serve as a benchmark for other industrial smart-cities nationwide.
