Japan extends Rs. 16,420 crore ODA loan for four infrastructure projects in India

Infrastructure  -  Mar 31,2026  -

Japan has committed an official development assistance (ODA) loan worth Rs. 16,420 crore for four key projects in India, reinforcing long-standing bilateral cooperation in infrastructure financing. The funding is expected to support projects spanning urban transport, connectivity, and sustainability-linked initiatives.

Japanese ODA has historically played a major role in funding metro systems and industrial corridors in India, and this latest tranche continues that trend. The projects are expected to improve urban mobility, reduce environmental impact, and enhance infrastructure resilience. Disbursement will follow detailed project structuring and approvals.

Such funding arrangements typically come with long tenures and low interest rates, making them attractive for large-scale infrastructure development. This enables faster execution of capital-intensive projects.

The collaboration also reflects strengthening India–Japan economic ties, particularly in infrastructure and technology-driven sectors. It underscores Japan’s continued commitment to India’s growth story.
