India’s largest Rs 10,000 crore floating solar project to rise on Jayakwadi Dam

Power Generation  -  Oct 30,2025  -

Maharashtra is set to host India’s largest floating solar project, with an estimated investment of Rs 10,000 crore, to be installed on the Jayakwadi Dam reservoir in Aurangabad district.

The project will occupy around 4,252 hectares — roughly 12% of the dam’s surface — and aims to generate over 1 GW of renewable energy once fully operational.

In addition to reducing evaporation losses by almost 30%, the initiative will bolster Maharashtra’s renewable energy capacity and support India’s national goal of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel power by 2030.

Floating solar projects are gaining momentum globally for their dual benefits — energy generation and water conservation — and Jayakwadi’s scale will make it a benchmark for future water-based solar initiatives across Asia.
