HMEL invests Ra 2,600 crore to scale Petrochemical capacity in Bathinda

Chemicals  -  Dec 24,2025  -

HPCL-Mittal Energy Ltd (HMEL) has earmarked Rs 2,600 crore for a major expansion of its polypropylene and fine chemicals units at the Guru Gobind Singh Refinery in Punjab.

By focusing on high-value petrochemical derivatives, the refinery is shifting its output toward specialty chemicals used in the automotive and packaging industries, which currently command higher margins than traditional fuels.

This investment not only strengthens HMEL’s downstream integration—currently meeting 14% of India’s polypropylene demand—but also supports the national strategy of achieving self-reliance in the specialty chemicals market.
