Hitachi Energy India to deliver 765 kV transformers to Power Grid Corporation to advance country's grid expansion

Power Generation  -  Jun 27,2025  -

Hitachi Energy India has secured a significant order from Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) to supply 30 units of 765-kilovolt (kV) 500 megavolt-ampere (MVA) single-phase transformers.

This order is crucial for advancing India's grid expansion and strengthening its power transmission infrastructure.

The transformers will be manufactured at Hitachi Energy India's power transformer factory in Maneja, Vadodara, Gujarat, aligning with the "Make in India" initiative. This local production ensures timely delivery and supports domestic manufacturing capabilities.

India has witnessed a substantial 15% annual growth in power demand over the last two years. To address this, utilities are shifting from near-term, project-based planning to longer-term, program-based approaches. This shift helps technology providers like Hitachi Energy plan capacity investments, secure supply chains, and ensure timely delivery.

Once installed, these 30 transformers will collectively be able to transmit power equivalent to the average consumption of 30 million households in India.
