Hamirpur barrage-cum-bridge project completion target pushed to June 2026

Infrastructure  -  Jun 30,2025  -

The completion target for the Hamirpur barrage-cum-bridge project has been pushed to June 2026.

The project, located over the Koel river in Hamirpur, Odisha, is currently behind schedule due to technical reasons and delays in private land acquisition. Despite these setbacks, approximately 66% of the structural work has been completed.

The project is designed to ensure drinking water availability for areas within the Rourkela Municipal Corporation limits and a portion of the Rourkela Steel Plant's captive township. It will also improve communication links across the river and has provisions for irrigation, aiming to irrigate around 1,200 hectares and stabilize the potential for mega lift irrigation.

Construction work is expected to gain momentum after the monsoon season, with land acquisition processes also ongoing simultaneously. The total length of the barrage-cum-bridge is 446.1 meters, with a two-lane road width of 7.5 meters. The project cost is estimated at around Rs 309 crore, excluding GST and land acquisition costs.
