Hindustan Zinc charts Rs 12,000 crore plan for new zinc complex in Rajasthan

Metallurgical Industries  -  Jun 18,2025  -

Hindustan Zinc (HZL), a company under the Vedanta Group, has announced a Rs 12,000 crore investment to build a new zinc metal complex in Debari, Rajasthan. This new facility will be able to produce 250,000 tonnes of zinc per year. This is part of their "2X growth" plan.

The company's board approved this project, which aims to double their production of zinc, lead, and silver in the coming years. This will help them manage their resources better for a long time and align with clean energy goals.

The new facility, which will be supported by increased mining and processing capacity, is expected to be finished in 36 months. It will be paid for using the company's own money and loans. India's demand for zinc is expected to double in the next 5 to 10 years, driven by infrastructure growth and a projected steel output of 300 million tonnes per year by 2030. This new plant will increase HZL's zinc processing capacity from 1.13 million tonnes per year to 2 million tonnes per year, and silver refining from 800 tonnes per year to 1,500 tonnes per year. Mining and processing capacity will also go up to 35 million tonnes per year to support this increased production.

HZL is also speeding up its efforts for sustainability. Their "EcoZen" green zinc brand, made using renewable energy, produces 75% less carbon and supports clean energy technologies like solar, wind, and electric vehicles.
