Google's $6 billion data centre puts Andhra Pradesh on the global tech map

Infrastructure  -  Sep 15,2025  -

Google is set to make a significant investment of $6 billion in India, with a large portion of this capital dedicated to establishing a new 1-gigawatt data center in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

This project is not just a landmark for Google in India but also its largest infrastructure project in Asia.

The strategic choice of Visakhapatnam as the location is driven by the state's aggressive push to become a digital powerhouse, with plans to establish multiple cable landing stations to rival hubs like Mumbai.

The investment aligns with Google's global commitment to sustainability, with approximately $2 billion earmarked for developing renewable energy sources to power the facility.

This move supports Google's goal of running its data centers on 24/7 carbon-free energy and contributes to India's broader environmental targets.

The new hyperscale facility is expected to enhance service resilience and reduce latency for enterprise and public sector users, bolstering Google's "sovereign cloud" initiative in India.
