GAIL to invest Rs 844 crore to boost gas pipeline capacity

Manufacturing  -  Jun 24,2025  -

GAIL (India), the government-owned gas company, will invest Rs 844 crore to increase the capacity of its Dahej-Uran-Dabhol-Panvel (DUPL-DPPL) natural gas pipeline network. The pipeline currently carries 19.9 million standard cubic meters of gas per day (mmscmd), and this will be increased to 22.5 mmscmd over the next three years.

GAIL's Board of Directors approved this decision on June 23. In another update, GAIL changed the completion date for its 1,702-kilometer Mumbai-Nagpur-Jharsuguda pipeline (MNJPL) project from June 30 to September 30, 2025.

The cost of this project has gone up by Rs 411.12 crore to Rs 8,255.37 crore, which is more than the original approved cost of Rs 7,844.25 crore. The project has been delayed due to difficulties in getting approvals related to forests, wildlife, and highways.

While 98% of the Nagpur-Jharsuguda section and 97% of the Nagpur-Jabalpur section are complete, small parts are still unfinished because of issues with buying land.
