CMRL conducts trial run on Poonamallee to Porur stretch

Infrastructure  -  Apr 29,2025  -

Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has commenced trial operations on the 9.1 km Poonamallee to Porur corridor, a significant segment of its Rs 63,246 crore Phase II expansion.

The trial began on 28 April, 2025, following earlier tests conducted in March between Poonamallee and Mullaithottam.

CMRL Managing Director MA Siddique highlighted the significance of the development in enhancing connectivity in the city’s western suburbs.

This extension will link with Vadapalani station on the operational Green Line, forming a vital transport artery from the suburban west to central Chennai.

The complexity of the engineering work, is particularly in the four km double-decker viaduct between Alapakkam and Alwarthirunagar.

The viaduct is targeted for completion by mid-next year, while connectivity to Koyambedu and the Chennai Trade Centre is expected by mid-June.
