Chennai Petroleum Corporation (CPCL) considers expanding Manali refinery

Infrastructure  -  Jul 30,2025  -

Chennai Petroleum Corporation (CPCL), a part of Indian Oil Corporation, is looking into increasing the size of its Manali refinery in North Chennai.

The company is considering expanding its capacity from 10.5 million tonnes per year (MTPA) to 14 MTPA.

This consideration comes as the refinery has been consistently operating above its stated capacity, often exceeding 110%. In the first three months of the current financial year (Q1 FY25), the refinery's usage reached 114%.

H. Shankar, Managing Director of CPCL, stated that to maintain such high levels of operation, investments are needed in equipment, storage tanks, and other infrastructure. A study to check the feasibility of this expansion began last month. This move indicates CPCL's aim to meet growing fuel demands and optimize its operations.
