The Centre has approved India’s first underwater road-cum-rail tunnel beneath the Brahmaputra river, marking a major milestone in Northeast infrastructure development. 

The tunnel is expected to sharply reduce travel time and provide all-weather connectivity between key economic zones. 

It will also improve freight movement efficiency and enhance strategic logistics in the region. 

The project involves complex engineering due to river depth and sediment flow, necessitating advanced tunnelling technology. Once completed, it is expected to act as a catalyst for regional trade and investment.
