BHEL to invest Rs. 3,064 crore in Coal India joint venture

Chemicals  -  Mar 20,2026  -

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited is set to invest Rs. 3,064 crore in a joint venture with Coal India Limited to develop coal-to-chemicals and related infrastructure.

The JV is expected to focus on value-added utilisation of coal, including production of synthetic fuels and downstream chemical products.

The move aligns with India’s broader strategy to reduce crude imports by converting domestic coal resources into alternative fuels.

The project will leverage BHEL’s engineering expertise alongside Coal India’s resource base.

Implementation will progress in phases following regulatory approvals and technology finalisation.
