BDA proposes new flyover from Nagawara to ease traffic towards airport

Infrastructure  -  Jul 03,2025  -

The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has proposed a new flyover from Nagawara to connect with the national highway leading to Kempegowda International Airport (KIA).

This initiative aims to significantly ease traffic congestion at the notoriously bottlenecked Hebbal Junction, particularly for vehicles coming from the Nagawara side.
The BDA board has already approved the preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for this new flyover.

The proposal comes after years of delays in building an additional ramp at Hebbal and is expected to address the current situation where traffic from Nagawara, Tumakuru Road, and Mehkri Circle all converge below the existing flyover, causing severe pile-ups.

An interesting aspect of this proposal is the BDA's consideration of repurposing 11 massive pillars that were erected in 2019 for a previous ramp project.

That project was halted due to objections from the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), which cited interference with future metro lines.

The BDA had already spent approximately Rs 25 crore on these unused pillars, located within the tree park at the junction. Reusing them could potentially reduce costs and expedite the construction of the new flyover
