Balrampur Chini to start operations at new bioplastics facility

Manufacturing  -  Nov 05,2025  -

Balrampur Chini Mills Ltd has announced the commencement of operations at its new bioplastics manufacturing unit, diversifying beyond sugar and ethanol. The facility will convert biomass and sugarcane derivatives into biodegradable plastic products, strengthening the company’s green-chemicals portfolio.

The investment marks a strategic step in Balrampur’s transition toward sustainable materials, leveraging its strong agro-industrial base. The plant will produce bio-based polymers for packaging, consumer goods, and agricultural applications.

India’s growing ban on single-use plastics and rising demand for sustainable packaging have accelerated investment in bioplastics. Balrampur’s early entry positions it to lead the domestic market and export to environmentally conscious global buyers.

The project underscores how traditional sugar companies are repurposing their feedstocks to align with the circular economy and carbon-reduction goals. Over time, Balrampur expects this segment to emerge as a key contributor to its non-sugar revenues.
