ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India commissions new line at Hazira plant

Manufacturing  -  Jul 17,2025  -

ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AMNS India) has commissioned a new production line at its Hazira plant in Gujarat to produce high-strength steel, specifically for the automotive sector.

This new Continuous Galvanising Line (CGL) is a significant part of AMNS India's ongoing ₹60,000 crore investment plan at the Hazira plant.

The CGL is capable of manufacturing Advanced High-Strength Steel (AHSS) with strength levels up to 1180 megapascals (MPa).

This type of steel is crucial for modern automotive applications, offering exceptional safety, durability, and enabling lightweighting for improved fuel efficiency.

With this commissioning, AMNS India has become the first company in India to produce such high-strength steel for the automotive industry, a move that aligns with India's "Atmanirbhar Bharat" (self-reliant India) initiative by substituting imports of these specialized steel grades.

The Hazira expansion project aims to increase the plant's capacity from the current 9 million tonnes (MT) to 15 MT, with a long-term goal of reaching 24 MTPA.
