Ambuja Cements, part of the Adani Group, plans to set up a 4-million-tonne-per-annum cement grinding unit at Gangavaram Port, Andhra Pradesh. 

The project aims to strengthen logistics efficiency and enhance Ambuja’s southern and eastern market reach.

However, the proposal has faced local resistance. A public hearing scheduled at Nadupuru High School was disrupted by protests over potential pollution, noise, and health hazards. 

The meeting was postponed, and civic groups have called for its cancellation, citing proximity to residential zones and sensitive ecosystems.

The situation underscores the balancing act between industrial growth and environmental safeguards in India’s infrastructure expansion plans.
