Adani to unveil 1 million tonne PVC plant in Mundra by 2028

Manufacturing  -  Jul 07,2025  -

The Adani Group is making a significant and strategic foray into India's petrochemicals sector with plans to commission a 1 million tonne per annum (MTPA) Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) manufacturing plant at Mundra, Gujarat, by fiscal year 2028 (April 2027 – March 2028).

This ambitious project is set to directly challenge the long-held dominance of Reliance Industries Ltd in the country's rapidly growing PVC market.

PVC, a versatile synthetic plastic polymer, is a critical material widely used across various sectors, including pipes and fittings, window frames, cable insulation, flooring, and numerous consumer goods.

India's annual PVC demand currently stands at approximately 4 million tonnes, while domestic production capacity is around 1.59 million tonnes.

Reliance Industries currently accounts for roughly half of this domestic capacity with plants in Hazira, Dahej, and Vadodara. With PVC demand projected to grow at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 8-10%, driven by robust growth in agriculture, infrastructure, housing, and packaging, Adani's new plant aims to significantly bridge this demand-supply gap and reduce India's import dependency.
