ACME to establish 400,00-tonne green ammonia plant at Tata SEZ in Odisha

Metallurgical Industries  -  Jun 06,2025  -

ACME Group will set up a green hydrogen-based ammonia production facility with an annual capacity of 4,00,000 tonne at the Tata Steel Special Economic Zone (Tata SEZ) in Gopalpur, Odisha.

The announcement was made during the Groundbreaking and Inauguration Ceremony for five industrial projects at the Gopalpur Industrial Estate, which was attended by Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, senior government officials, and ACME executives.

The project, set to commence supply in 2029, is backed by a long-term agreement with a Japanese corporation to export the entire output from the Odisha plant. The initiative forms part of ACME’s global strategy to promote the adoption of green hydrogen and ammonia across hard-to-abate industrial sectors and aligns with Japan’s Net Zero goals.

According to ACME, the project will support India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission and contribute to decarbonising industries through clean fuel alternatives. It is also expected to create over 1,000 direct and indirect jobs, further boosting Odisha’s clean energy ecosystem.

“The facility at Gopalpur will play a crucial role in accelerating India’s energy transition while strengthening global green energy supply chains,” the company said in a statement.
