V O Chidambaranar Port Authority has formed a joint venture with the Tamil Nadu government to develop a shipbuilding cluster at Tuticorin.

The JV will focus on shipbuilding, ship repair, and allied infrastructure. The cluster will be developed on port-linked land parcels.

The initiative aims to strengthen domestic shipbuilding capabilities.

The project will be implemented in phases based on demand and approvals.
