Vizhinjam Port receives environment clearance for second and third phases

Vizhinjam International deep-water multi-purpose Seaport has received environmental clearance (EC) from the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change for the development of Phase-II and III.

Kerala Port Minister VN Vasavan said that the development includes extending the Phase I container terminal by 1,200 mtrs., expanding the container storage yard, extending the main breakwater by 900 meters, constructing multi-purpose berths, and setting up a liquid cargo storage facility. 

Additionally, the project involves 77.17 hectares of land reclamation and 7.20 cubic mtrs. of dredging. The estimated investment of Rs 10,000 crore for all phases is expected to grant the port international prominence and generate generate employment.

The Minister stated that the entire project would be completed ahead of schedule, fostering new economic opportunities in the region. With the capacity to accommodate mother vessels, traders will benefit from reduced logistics costs, enhancing competitiveness
