Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurates Sonik Logistics Hub

Infrastructure  -  Oct 15,2025  -

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated the Sonik Integrated Logistics Hub in Uttar Pradesh and simultaneously launched two new door-to-door freight and parcel services, marking a transformative step in Indian logistics.

The hub sits strategically between Lucknow and Kanpur, enabling consolidation and distribution across industrial clusters in the Indo-Gangetic plains.

The hub is managed by CONCOR (Container Corporation of India) and offers warehousing, inventory management, loading/unloading, and rail connectivity.

The launches also include a container train service on the Delhi–Kolkata route (promising 120-hour delivery) and a Mumbai–Kolkata parcel route, which is expected to cut logistics costs by about 7.5% and shrink transit times by nearly 30%.

This development aligns with India’s push to strengthen its logistics infrastructure, reduce friction in door-to-door delivery, and reduce dependency on road transport.

It is part of Indian Railways’ shift from being purely a bulk transporter to a full-service logistics provider—competing in the intermodal space and taking advantage of rail’s inherent cost and efficiency advantages over longer distances.
