Tamil Nadu secures Rs 30,000 crore in shipbuilding projects

Automotive Industries  -  Sep 22,2025  -

Tamil Nadu is leveraging its long coastline to become a leader in India's maritime revival. The recently signed MoUs for two new commercial shipyards in Thoothukudi are a direct result of the state's proactive TN Rising initiative.

This includes the formation of a dedicated company to promote shipbuilding and the upcoming Tamil Nadu Maritime Transport Manufacturing Policy 2025.

This policy aims to make the state a major hub for ship and boat design, hull fabrication, and engine production.

The significant investment, secured from major public sector undertakings like Cochin Shipyard Limited and Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited, is a testament to Tamil Nadu's strategic focus on industrialization and job creation.

The projects are expected to generate over 50,000 jobs and position the state as a key player in Asia's shipbuilding industry.
