Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata secures Rs 48,000 crore investment at India Maritime Wee

Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata (SMPK), has announced investment commitments exceeding Rs 48,000 crore through multiple MoUs signed at India Maritime Week 2025. 

The agreements cover a range of projects, including port modernization, cargo terminals, inland waterway logistics, and green energy integration. 

SMPK’s efforts align with the national Maritime India Vision 2047, which aims to transform Indian ports into high-efficiency logistics hubs. Kolkata Port, one of India’s oldest and most strategically located, handles crucial trade routes linking northeastern states, Nepal, and Bhutan. 

The fresh investments are expected to expand its cargo capacity by 50% and create tens of thousands of jobs in the region. The move underscores India’s commitment to boosting port-led industrial growth and logistics competitiveness.
