SiCSem breaks ground for India’s first silicon carbide semiconductor plant in Odisha

Automotive Industries  -  Oct 31,2025  -

SiCSem has officially commenced construction of India’s first silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductor fabrication facility in Odisha—a landmark moment for the country’s electronics and EV ecosystem.

The facility will produce advanced SiC power devices, which are critical for electric vehicles, renewable inverters, data centres, and energy-efficient power modules.

This development aligns with India’s semiconductor mission to localize chip manufacturing and reduce dependence on global suppliers.

SiC technology offers superior thermal conductivity and switching efficiency compared to conventional silicon, making it vital for next-generation electrification.

Odisha’s policy incentives and industrial ecosystem are positioning the state as an emerging electronics manufacturing hub.

The plant is expected to generate high-skilled employment and accelerate India’s journey toward semiconductor self-reliance.
