Prime Minister Narendra Modi has unveiled a Rs 4,000 crore modernization plan for Dredging Corporation of India Limited (DCIL), marking a major upgrade in India’s maritime infrastructure capabilities. 

The plan includes procurement of new high-capacity dredgers, technology modernization, and increased domestic manufacturing through “Make in India” partnerships. Dredging plays a crucial role in maintaining navigability for India’s ports and waterways — essential for trade and logistics efficiency. 

The upgrade will enable DCIL to meet growing dredging demands from major and minor ports, especially under the Sagarmala Programme. 

With these enhancements, DCIL is poised to expand its operations internationally and contribute to India’s vision of becoming a global maritime power.
