The Public Investment Board has approved the Rs. 26,069 crore Kamala Hydro Electric Project in Arunachal Pradesh, marking a major boost to renewable energy capacity in the Northeast. 

With an installed capacity of 1,720 MW, the project is expected to significantly enhance regional power availability and grid stability. 

The investment underscores the Centre’s focus on tapping hydropower potential in strategically important border states.

Construction activity is likely to generate large-scale employment and stimulate local economies. 

The project will also support long-term decarbonisation goals by reducing dependence on thermal power.
