ONGC partners with Assam Power Corporation to launch Northeast’s first 250 MW BESS in Assam

Power Generation  -  May 12,2025  -

ONGC Tripura Power Company (OTPCL), a subsidiary of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), has teamed up with Assam Power Development Corporation to jointly develop a 250 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) in Assam.

it is said that the energy will be charged into the battery system during the day and discharged during high-demand hours.

This approach addresses a critical gap in the renewable energy sector.

The initiative ensures efficient energy management and contributes to reducing dependency on conventional energy sources during critical periods.

Given the novelty of the technology in the Indian energy sector, especially in the Northeast, the 250 MW facility will be developed in phases to allow a smooth implementation and learning curve.
