Numaligarh Refinery at the forefront of India's Green Energy revolution

Chemicals  -  Sep 17,2025  -

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated India's first-of-its-kind bamboo-based ethanol plant and laid the foundation stone for a new polypropylene (PP) plant at the Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) in Assam.

The Rs 5,000 crore bioethanol plant is the world's first second-generation plant of its kind and is a landmark move to reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

It will source 5 lakh tonnes of bamboo annually from local farmers, directly boosting the rural economy.

The accompanying Rs 7,230 crore PP plant will be crucial for the manufacturing of various modern products and will reinforce the 'Make in India' and 'Make in Assam' initiatives.
