NLC's lignite-to-methanol project

likely to be completed by March 2027

NLC India Ltd.'s Rs 4,394 crore lignite-to-methanol project in Neyveli, Tamil Nadu, is expected to be completed by March 2027.

The initiative fits into NLC's strategy for diversification.

Historically, NLC has been involved in lignite mining and the construction of lignite-based power stations. The project is anticipated to be finished by March 2027, according to a regulatory filing by the business.

The Center's coal gasification plan, which calls for the sustainable use of lignite as fuel to accomplish its aggressive net-zero goals, aligns with the proposed lignite-to-methanol project.

"The total period of the project is 42 months from the date of Letter of Award (LOA)," it added.

In October last year, NLC had floated a global tender for awarding the project through project management consultancy Engineers India Limited (EIL) for gasification block (LEPC-1) of its Lignite-to-Methanol project at Neyveli, in Tamil Nadu.
