NHPC Limited has commissioned Unit 1 of the Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project, marking a key milestone in one of India’s largest hydro power developments.

The project, located on the Subansiri River along the Assam–Arunachal Pradesh border, has a total planned capacity of 2,000 MW.

Officials said the commissioning of the first unit will begin phased power generation, with additional units to be brought online progressively.

The project is expected to significantly boost hydropower capacity in the northeastern region.

It will also support grid stability and renewable energy integration.
