Keelakarai has emerged as the frontrunner location for the proposed greenfield airport near Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu.

The site has been shortlisted based on connectivity and land suitability assessments.

The airport is planned to improve access to pilgrimage and tourism destinations.

Preliminary surveys and feasibility studies are underway. Final site selection will follow regulatory and environmental clearances.
