JSW Infrastructure secures Rs 740 crore concession for Kolkata Port modernisation

Infrastructure  -  Sep 16,2025  -

The Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata (SMPK), has signed a 30-year concession agreement with JSW Infrastructure Ltd.

The Rs 740 crore project is aimed at modernising and mechanising container handling facilities at the Netaji Subhas Dock (NSD).

This partnership is a significant step towards enhancing the port's efficiency and competitiveness, in line with the Government of India's vision for developing world-class ports.

The agreement involves the reconstruction of berth 8 and the installation of Rail-Mounted Quay Cranes (RMQC) at both berths 7 and 8.

These upgrades, along with a 25-acre backup area, are designed to enable faster and more efficient handling of container cargo. The terminal is projected to handle a capacity of 5 lakh TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) annually.

According to SMPK Chairman Rathendra Raman, this project underscores the port's commitment to strengthening trade facilitation and infrastructure.

The partnership with JSW Infra is poised to play a pivotal role in driving growth and reinforcing SMPK's position as a crucial gateway in Eastern India.
