Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), traditionally a city gas distribution company, has entered the renewable energy sector in a major way by forming a joint venture with Rajasthan Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RVUNL). 

The new partnership will develop a 500 MW solar power project in Bikaner, Rajasthan, with an estimated investment of Rs 2,066 crore.

The joint venture, in which IGL holds a 74% stake and RVUNL holds 26%, marks a strategic diversification for the gas company. 

The project is designed to leverage Rajasthan's vast solar potential and will contribute to India's national goal of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based capacity by 2030.
