HD Hyundai has selected Tamil Nadu for its maiden shipyard in India, marking a major boost for the state’s maritime manufacturing ambitions. 

The upcoming facility in Thoothukudi is expected to attract large-scale investment and create significant employment across shipbuilding and allied sectors. 

The move aligns with the state’s strategy of positioning its southern coast as a competitive global shipbuilding cluster. 

The project is also expected to strengthen India’s shipbuilding ecosystem, which has been seeking greater private and foreign participation. 

With this investment, Tamil Nadu is poised to attract more suppliers and marine engineering units into its coastal belt. The shipyard is anticipated to catalyse long-term industrial growth around Thoothukudi Port.
