Government clears Rs 5,500 crore for seven projects under electronics manufacturing scheme

Manufacturing  -  Oct 28,2025  -

The Indian government has approved seven electronics-component manufacturing projects worth around Rs 5,532 crore under the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS).

These units focus on multilayer PCBs, camera-module sub-assemblies, copper laminates and polypropylene films—key inputs for smartphones, automotive electronics and consumer-devices.

The strategy is clear: reduce electronics component imports, enhance the domestic value-chain, and develop export capability. India’s electronics-manufacturing growth has often lagged due to upstream dependency; this move addresses that gap.

These projects are expected to generate over 5,000 direct jobs, with many more indirectly across supply-chain services, testing, packaging and logistics. States like Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh stand to benefit significantly from this localisation push.

Execution will hinge on timely roll-out of infrastructure support (land, power, water), availability of skilled workforce and ability to integrate with OEM and Tier-1 supply chains. Domestic policy regimes like PLI and capital-subsidy schemes will shape competitiveness
