Goa’s 10-TPD gasification-based waste-treatment plant at Sonsodo to come by early 2026

Power Generation  -  Nov 14,2025  -

In a move to boost waste-to-energy and circular-economy infrastructure, the government of Goa has green-lit a 10-tonne-per-day (TPD) gasification-based waste treatment plant at Sonsodo, scheduled for commissioning by early 2026.

The facility uses gasification technology to convert municipal solid waste into synthetic gas, reducing landfill burden and generating energy or feedstock for industries.

This initiative aligns with national targets on municipal-waste processing, landfill diversion and clean-energy conversion. For Goa—where landfill space is limited and tourism-driven waste volumes are high—the project is strategically important. It signals a shift beyond traditional composting and landfill models toward advanced thermal/chemical technologies.

From an investment and policy standpoint, such projects often require strong waste-feedstock ties, reliable off-take agreements for produced syngas or power, and support for emissions & ash-management.

The success of the Sonsodo plant will depend on feed-stock consistency (tourism & urban waste flow), technology performance and integration into Goa’s utility systems.

If delivered on time, the plant could catalyse further waste-treatment projects in tourist states and set a model for decentralised, modular waste-gasification units with clean-energy spin-offs.
