Six-lane bridge over Rajakilpakkam to link Tambaram eastern bypass in Chennai

Infrastructure  -  Nov 24,2025  -

Chennai authorities have approved a six-lane bridge project over Rajakilpakkam to connect with the Tambaram eastern bypass, aimed at decongesting traffic and improving connectivity for suburban commuter flows and logistics movement in the city’s south-eastern corridor.

The new bridge will reduce travel times, support smoother goods movement to industrial pockets and encourage more balanced urban growth by opening up adjacent land parcels for development and last-mile logistics.

Urban planners will need to coordinate utilities, environmental clearances and traffic management during construction to minimise disruption and secure the projected mobility benefits.

The project is part of Chennai’s broader infrastructure push to upgrade arterial links and improve resilience for growing commuter and commercial traffic.
