NHPC Limited has commenced commercial operations of the fourth unit at the 2,000 MW Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project, India’s largest hydroelectric project under development.

The commissioning marks another milestone in one of the country’s most significant renewable energy infrastructure projects.

Located on the Subansiri river along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border, the project is expected to play a major role in strengthening power supply in the Northeast.

Hydropower remains a crucial component of India’s clean energy transition due to its ability to provide stable baseload renewable power.

The project is also expected to improve regional grid stability and support future industrial growth.
