The Ministry of Defence has signed contracts worth Rs. 975 crore for the procurement of advanced trawl systems, aimed at enhancing the Indian Navy’s mine countermeasure capabilities.

These systems are critical for detecting and neutralising underwater mines, ensuring safe navigation and operational readiness in strategic maritime zones.

The contracts also support domestic defence manufacturing and technology development, aligning with the government’s push for self-reliance in defence procurement.

Strengthening such capabilities is essential given the increasing complexity of maritime security challenges.

The move also contributes to the development of specialised defence equipment manufacturing within India.
