Two bidders compete for Thane-Borivali Tunnel Project in Mumbai

Technical bids for the 11.84 km Thane – Borivali twin tunnel project in Mumbai were opened, and the only two bidders are Larsen & Toubro (L&T) and Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Ltd. (MEIL).

The Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) will be traversed by two tunnels measuring 10.8 km each, each with a combined 1 km of approach roads on either end, as part of this road project by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).

The three-lane tunnels, which would have a maximum depth of 23 metres below the surface, will link Tikuji-Ni-Wadi at Manpada in Thane and Magathane’sEkta Nagar in Borivali utilising four gigantic tunnel boring machines (TBMs).

MMRDA had invited tenders for its civil construction under 2 civil packages in December 2022 with unknown estimate and a 4 year completion deadline.
