Six companies bid for CMRL line 3 and 5 electrification contracts

After Chennai Metro Rail Ltd. (CMRL) released technical bids on Monday, 6 companies submitted offers for 2 different contracts to commission the electrification system for lines 3 and 5 of the Chennai Metro (OHE, RSS, ASS, & SCADA).

Both of these lines, which are now under construction as part of Chennai Metro‘s 118.9 km Phase 2 project, would connect Madhavaram – SIPCOT (Line-3, 45.813 km) and Madhavaram – Sholinganallur (Line-5, 47 km) with a combination of elevated and underground stations.

The 25 km Madhavaram Milk Colony – Sholinganallur stretch of Line-3 and the 23 km Madhavaram Milk Colony – CMBT section of Line-5, as well as its shared Madhavaram Depot, are covered under these two electrification system contracts.

CMRL had invited tenders for both contracts in October 2021 with an unknown estimate and 2350 day (6.44 year) completion deadlines.
