Pune airport gets 1.7 acres of defence land for cargo facility

Defence Estates Office (DEO), Pune area, turned over 1.76 acres of land to the city airport authorities for the purpose of building a new cargo facility. Once the current cargo space is freed, the airport authority will also be able to speed up the ongoing development of its new terminal building, according to the authorities.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) needed to transfer the land in order to start the project. Santosh Dhoke, director of the Pune airport, said, “We aim to complete the work before December 31 this year.”

For the development of Pune Airport this year, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has consented to donate 13 acres of defence territory to the AAI.

On the remaining land, Dhoke said, “We will have to create assets for the Indian Air Force (IAF). Only then will the existing infrastructure of the IAF be able to clear and get the remaining land parcel for the work. We have got designs of the assets from the DEO. We are working on the estimation of the cost that will be required to create the assets for the IAF.”
