NHPC signs preliminary contract with BEL

A preliminary contract was signed by NHPC and Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) for the establishment of a large-scale manufacturing facility for solar equipment.

According to a BSE filing, “NHPC and BEL have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the establishment of a gigawatt size vertically integrated solar manufacturing unit.”

The MoU was signed by Vinay Kumar Katyal, Director (Bangalore Complex), BEL, and Biswajit Basu, Director (Projects), NHPC. The state-owned hydropower behemoth NHPC has a 7071.2 MW installation base spread over 24 power plants, including two joint venture projects.

It is working on building 11 projects with a combined installed capacity of 7,539 MW. In the years 2021 to 2022, NHPC power plants generated 24,855 MU (million units).
