NHAI plans infrastructure development in Chennai

The present Tambaram ROBs will shortly be demolished and replaced with a bigger bridge at a cost of 25.7 crore by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

The current building, which serves as the southern entrance to the city, has just four lanes on either side.

However, on this section of the NH-45 Road connecting Chennai and Trichy, 1.5 lakh cars go by route of daily. The NHAI had suggested building an eight-lane bridge on both sides to help with this traffic.

The bridge, which will be built across the railway lines connecting Tambaram and Perungalathur stations, has been designed in such a way allowing vehicles to travel at 65 kmph. According to NHAI documents, the total length of the project is 2.4 km and work is expected to be completed before 2024 end.
