Modi virtually commissions 500 TPD Methanol Plant in Guwahati

The 500 TPD Methanol Plant for Assam Petrochemicals Ltd. (APL) in Namrup, Dibrugarh, which was built by Engineers India Ltd. (EIL) as a LEPCM consultant, was dedicated to the nation on April 14, 2023 in a ceremony held in Guwahati by Prime Minister NarendraModi.

The APL Project, one of the biggest methanol plants in India using natural gas as a fuel, touts a high energy efficiency, zero liquid discharge, and plans for future acetic acid plant integration.

The plant’s commissioning is an important step in the government of India’s ambitious roadmap for the methanol economy, which aims to reduce India’s energy import bill through the introduction of M15 Petrol, a 15% blend of methanol and petrol, as well as reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Under the project, APL will supply methanol not only to other states in India but also to neighboring countries through exports. This is expected to strengthen India’s position as a regional supplier of methanol, boosting trade and economic ties with neighboring nations.
