Mainland Mumbai and Navi Mumbai Airport to be connected by a 35 km Metro Corridor

A new 35 km Airport Express Metro is planned to connect the existing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in mainland Mumbai to the forthcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA).

By December 2024, the Navi Mumbai International Airport is anticipated to be open for business. The connection between the two airports and the transportation connectivity between Mumbai and NMIA are of the utmost importance.

There isn’t a mass rapid transit system (MRTS) that connects the two airports at the moment.

However, Line 8 was designed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) to link Navi Mumbai Airport with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. Since 2014, the projected Metro 8 corridor has been included in the MMRDA’s Metro Master Plan.
