Maharashtra to establish new drug testing lab in Pune

In order to analyse drug samples in the state quickly, the Maharashtra government plans to establish a new drug testing lab in Pune. As of right now, Mumbai, Nagpur, and Aurangabad all have drug testing facilities.

By establishing more drug testing laboratories, the amount of time it takes to analyse non-standard and sub-standard substances and provide test results from drug samples might be significantly decreased. The main reason for establishing such drug testing facilities is to ensure efficient drug recall. The state’s upgrading of its drug testing infrastructure will help with sample collection, analysis for safety, and drug recall.

Maharashtra FDA Commissioner Abhimanyu Kale has chalked out a comprehensive plan for the upgradation of manpower and labs to tackle non-compliance to drug rules and curb illegal sales of counterfeit drugs.

Kale informed, “Technical manpower in labs put together which currently stands at 80 plus staff will also be upgraded. As of today, Mumbai tests 4,000 samples, Aurangabad tests 1,000 samples and Nagpur tests 500 to 600 samples on an annual basis.”
