The State government has not yet approved the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Metro Rail expansion between Chennai Airport and Kilambakkam bus station.
The project is currently on hold, despite the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) having said in December 2019 that the Kilambakkam feasibility study was finished and was awaiting government permission.
Dayanand Krishnan, a resident of Chitlapakkam and a GIS consultant, obtained a wealth of project-related data from CMRL on June 22 through an RTI petition.
The DPR estimate would only be sent to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for clearance at the Centre, according to the RTI response from CMRL. This was verified when the TN government gave its consent.
